Getting Utilities Set-up For Your New Home

In Northeast Florida, not all homes have natural or bottled gas. Devices that can use gas include: Pool/Spa Heaters, Water Heaters, Fireplaces, Gas Cooktops, Gas Ovens, Dryers and Whole Home Generators. There are three ways for gas to be delivered to a property.
1. Natural Gas - Gas service is available from the utility straight to the house. This is most preferred option.
2. Buried Tank - The property owner MUST purchase the tank for it to be buried. These tanks normally hold a significant amount of gas. If you are purchasing a property with a buried tank, that tank will be included in the sale.
3. Bottled - Bottles can be anything from a propane tank commonly used for a gas grill to a large exterior tank that is hopefully hidden out of view. The small propane tanks can just be swapped out like you would for a gas grill, while the larger ones require a servicing company. Whatever servicing company owns the tank is the gas company you must use. You can switch gas companies, but its typically easier to transfer the account to your name with whatever company the current owner is using and switch to another provider after you have owned the home for a few months.
